A full day's work

Well from last night when i started painting to when i left Jimmy's house today. Its been one hell of a day.

I painted my Hard pipes, i hope it holds up! How do you like the home made paint booth? AKA... hanging the damned pipes from my garage door rail lol. It sure as hell worked great though.
Don't forget to use some GOOD wax and grease remover! Be sure to keep your grimy fingers off them pipes after you wipe 'em down.
1 step closer...

And wow today was busy. I tinkered on Braden's car some. Now that the damn thing runs better than my car. :( Totally jealous. Freaking love the new Tuner Studio version too by the way. That guy is a freaking genius.

I picked up a single 9" rear today.... now just need more and i'll be good to!

Fuel Injection Pro to Megasquirt II

So when i bought my car from Cregg he had a FIP fuel and ignition controller in it(pictured at left). I tried to mess with it some, but i had absolutely no idea what i was doing. I asked friends, they looked at it some, but I was still right where I was at to start. Then in May of 2008 I went to work on a normal saturday morning. After doing some reading thar morning i realized that DIYAutotune was hosting their Mega-Meet that day! So when I got off work I decided to stop on by and see what all was going on, there was a bunch of cars getting dynoed, and a bunch of ppl sitting around. I ran into Bill, a quester from Florida, and John and David of Garage Zero. I stood around and hung out for a bit. Matt even came over and looked at my FIP setup. Said it looked normal *shrug* Well that very day i was bitten by the bug. I decided i HAD to swap out my FIP and install me a nice pretty Megasquirt.

So i did some reading and talked to Russ, he helped me decide what to buy. I ended up buying a unassembled MSII and we were going to set it up a distributor ignition setup just like FIP had. I also bought a harness, injector clips, and a couple sensors. Thanks to Cregg i was able to route the Megasquirt right in the same Gdamn impossible place he somehow routed the FIP harness. Then I connected up the power, injectors, all the timing stuff. and tried to crank it. nothing. nadda. nichts. no tach signal, no spark, nothin. so then I tried it a with a tach adapter. nothing. then I tried it with direct coil control. Got a tach signal!... but its like it was sparking every 5th crank or something... Couldn't get Timing to work right. So i was talking to with russ about how much a half finished megasquirt install is worth and he said "well I got a box of EDIS parts in my attic, you want 'em?"

I got all those parts, wired it all up, got Cregg to mod my crank pulley and installed it all. and finally with a bit of persuasion I had a running MPI Megasquirt EDIS car. I love this thing. It drives so smooth. Alot of people were asking why bother going through all that effort to switch from one stand alone to another. Its the experience and the lessons learned. When i first looked at megatune it was latin to me, now i can open Tuner Studio and tell you exactly what every setting does. I can look at a datalog and interpret it and tell you why your car is doing something. I NEVER would have understood this stuff before!

This experience has given me enough knowledge to help numerous Starquesters. I've even took a 1976 Toyota Celica with a 2.3 turbo-brick Volvo motor and got it all wired and running! That thing was wicked!

When everything was said and done, I regret nothing. I look forward to working on my car and continuing to help others as the opportunity arrises

Hello

Hi. My name is Kyle. I'm 24. and I'm an alcoholic.

...wait... no... I'm not an alcoholic, but I do have an addiction. I've fought this addiction for years now. I even was almost forced to quit recently. But thanks to an opportunity that showed up, I was able to press on. and damn my wife hates this addiction.

The problem is this thing sitting in my garage right now.

Now i'm sure you're thinking "What in the world is that beautiful pile of oily metal and rubber?"

The answer is this.

Damn... that's pretty isn't it? and then there's the fact that its torn in a hundred pieces across the garage. And man that's not the first time, ya see back when I...

*ahem*...and yet, I digress...

It started many years ago. I was trying to figure out what kind of car to get since I just sold my Honda. Because I HAD to have another car. But this time I wanted a project. So I asked my friend Justin, whom at the time I only knew online. I said "I want some kinda turbo rwd car; but 240s w/SR20 is played out; and supras are all too expensive" He said "Look here www.Starquestclub.com"

Damn you Justin.

So I did some searching and with only knowing(kinda) how to change oil, I decided to take on the most in depth and lengthy learning experience of my life. I went and looked at Justin's Starion(which wasn't running), who for record is not black, when I hopped back in the car to leave my girlfriend said, "Wow what a pile of junk." I said "yeah... I want one." So I finally settled on a pretty mostly-stock black 1987 Starion ES-IR. Justin followed me back from Villa Rica and we stopped at Gwinnett Place Mall. Why did we stop there? Because the starion wanted to and who am I to argue with such a omniscient being.

So I start driving this thing everyday. Meet some more people in the community; Cregg, Grant, Jimmy, etc... And eventually I decide I need to rebuild the motor. Ugh. What a pain!

So i took this
and did this

WTF was i thinking!?!? I think it was through this time that i started hanging out with one of my best friends, Cregg. and this is where I would put a pic of Cregg if i had it... but no such thing exists.

So, what happened with this car?... 2 things...

AND

JUST KIDDING... not really... I decided it would be wise to get something more family friendly. So I got a 93 Grand Cherokee and said goodbye to my 1987.

So ofcourse I tired of the stoopid ZJ and started to looking for a cheap starion project. About that time I got a call i still regret. Cregg offered me his car, he was tired of messing with it and wanted to unload it. I jumped at it. And so I aquired my 1986 Multi-Port Fuel Injection Pro multi-colored Starion. I then painted it that lovely green-grey color, swapped out the FIP for a Megasquirt, and its been a gradual process ever since.

Thats all for tonight.

But let me leave with you a couple things...

Next time... I'll talk about my car and where it's at and future plans!
